This looks like our cat, April, who will be 16 on April 15th:

If you tease her with the mouse pointer on her chest or stomach she will purr. Get her to meow also by rubbing her forehead with the pointer.
I’d have to say it’s the joggers rushing around that are disturbing the peace out in the woods with all their bustling about…
Banned from laughing in woods
A German has been ordered to stop laughing out loud in the woods after joggers complained he was disturbing the peace.
Accountant Joachim Bahrenfeld, 54, from Datteln said he goes to the woods after work and at weekends to have a good belly laugh.
"It's part of living for me, like eating, drinking and breathing. I feel much better when I laugh, it's freeing and healthy," he said.
But he now faces a £4,000 fine or six months jail if he laughs out loud again after a jogger successfully took him to court saying he was disturbing the peace…

Boy, they sure do sound like they know what they’re talking about!
"The Cooling World": From Newsweek, April 28, 1975.
There are ominous signs that the Earth's weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production -- with serious political implications for just about every nation on Earth. The drop in food output could begin quite soon, perhaps only 10 years from now...
...The evidence in support of these predictions has now begun to accumulate so massively that meteorologists are hard-pressed to keep up with it…
...Meteorologists disagree about the cause and extent of the trend… but they are almost unanimous in the view that the trend will reduce agricultural productivity for the rest of the century...
...A survey completed last year by Dr. Murray Mitchell of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reveals a drop of half a degree in average ground temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere between 1945 and 1968. According to George Kukla of Columbia University, satellite photos indicated a sudden, large increase in Northern Hemisphere snow cover in the winter of 1971-72. And a study released last month by two NOAA scientists notes that the amount of sunshine reaching the ground in the continental U.S. diminished by 1.3% between 1964 and 1972.
...Just what causes the onset of major and minor ice ages remains a mystery. "Our knowledge of the mechanisms of climatic change is at least as fragmentary as our data," concedes the National Academy of Sciences report…
...Climatologists are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climatic change [sound familiar?], or even to allay its effects. They concede that some of the more spectacular solutions proposed, such as melting the Arctic ice cap by covering it with black soot or diverting arctic rivers, might create problems far greater than those they solve. [you mean they wanted to melt the ice caps? Now they are complaining about the glaciers melting] But the scientists see few signs that government leaders anywhere are even prepared to take the simple measures of stockpiling food or of introducing the variables of climatic uncertainty into economic projections of future food supplies. The longer the planners delay, the more difficult will they find it to cope with climatic change once the results become grim reality... [as you can see the scientists were certain about all this global cooling…]

Eureka! Science explains it all again… must be some more of that global cooling…
Jesus walked on ice, not water, a study says
The New Testament story describes Jesus walking on water in the Sea of Galilee but according to a study led by Florida State University Professor of Oceanography Doron Nof, it's more likely that he walked on an isolated patch of floating ice.
Nof points to a rare combination of optimal water and atmospheric conditions for development of a unique, localized freezing phenomenon that Nof and his co-authors call "springs ice."
In what is now northern Israel, such ice could have formed on the cold freshwater surface of the Sea of Galilee -- known as Lake Kinneret by modern-day Israelis -- when already chilly temperatures briefly plummeted during one of the two protracted cold periods between 2,500 and 1,500 years ago.
A frozen patch floating on the surface of the small lake (actually it is a large lake) would have been difficult to distinguish from the unfrozen water surrounding it…
"As natural scientists, we simply explain that unique freezing processes probably happened in that region only a handful of times during the last 12,000 years," Nof said. "We leave to others the question of whether or not our research explains the biblical account." (what a coincidence!)
...His latest research appears in the April 2006 Journal of Paleolimnology, a scientific publication that addresses the reconstruction of lake history…

…The apostles were out in a boat. How would the boat have put out to sea if there was ice sufficient for a man to walk on it? And if it was a long narrow patch, it just happened to lay next to the boat for Jesus to walk on…? It was windy out, I think it would be easier to walk on water than a long floating patch of ice in Lake Galilee. The miracle would be that the long narrow patch not breaking in the wind and waves…
No wait!! We were kidding!! The world isn't cooling, it's warming!! But panick just the same (we we're right about that part!!!!!!!!!)
The Media and Reporting on the Environment
April 05, 2006 -Next time you read a magazine cover story like the one Time just published ("Be Worried. Be VERY Worried. Polar Ice Caps Are Melting ... More And More Land Is Being Devastated ... Rising Waters Are Drowning Low-Lying Communities... The climate is crashing, and global warming is to blame") you should remember one little fact...

What do China, Cuba, Syria, Libya and Sudan, have in common?…
Believe it or not, China, Cuba, Syria, Libya and Sudan – historically among the world’s worst abusers of human rights – are either current or recent members of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. The commission is soon to be replaced with the U.N. Human Rights Council.

...and now Iran wants in on the act...
Iran has declared itself a candidate for the United Nations' new human rights body, joining several dozen other states that have put forward their names ahead of next month's election....
...Last December, in a 71-54 vote (with 55 abstentions), the U.N. General Assembly passed a strongly worded resolution condemning Iran's human rights violations...

The earlier you begin your program of accumulation for retirement, the harder your monthly surplus will work for you.
April 5, 2006 (AgapePress) - During our working years, we must strike that balance between income and spending that allows us to generate a monthly surplus. Many take the short-term (and potentially disastrous) view that "as long as we're paying our bills, our finances are in good shape." Without a regular monthly surplus, however, they will not be able to accumulate the investment capital that is needed to provide long-term financial security.
The earlier you begin your program of accumulation, the harder your monthly surplus will work for you. Dollars invested during your 20s are much more valuable than dollars invested during your 40s. Table A shows the effects of putting aside $100 a month over various periods of time.

Textbook: Donkeys Better Than Housewives
Apr 04-05- "A donkey is like a housewife," declares the Hindi language primer approved by the state of Rajasthan, according to The Times of India newspaper. "It has to toil all day and, like her, may even have to give up food and water."
"In fact, the donkey is a shade better," continues the text meant for 14-year-olds, "for while the housewife may sometimes complain and walk off to her parents' home, you'll never catch the donkey being disloyal to his master." http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/04/04/D8GPFKQ02.html
New Orleans Mayor Blocks FEMA Trailer Park
Apr 5- Mayor Ray Nagin suspended the construction of FEMA trailer parks in the city after a confrontation between federal workers and homeowners who were outraged that a government trailer park was being built inside their gated community.
...FEMA officials said they were surprised by Nagin's decision, especially since he had approved the Algiers trailer site months earlier, FEMA spokesman Darryl Madden told The New York Times. All the necessary building permits had been obtained, Madden said.
The city may have to reimburse the federal government $1.6 million if FEMA is not allowed to finish building the trailer site, Madden said Tuesday...

Ruthless Zarqawi kicked out London, April 4:
Abu Musab al Zarqawi, the most feared commander in the Iraqi insurgency, may have been forced to surrender his leadership by rival groups, angered by his tactics and the interference of foreign fighters in the Iraqi conflict.
...his tactics have alienated many Iraqis, even those sympathetic to the insurgency. Azzam, whose father is known as the “prince of the Mujaheedin”, said that he was accused of “creating an independent group” in Iraq, “making political mistakes” and hijacking the Iraqi insurgency for his own cause.
The claims could not be confirmed, but they did add to mounting evidence that al Zarqawi has been increasingly isolated over the past months because of his ruthless tactics.
The council appears to have demoted al Zarqawi and replaced him with a relative unknown, Abdullah bin Rashid al-Baghdadi.
As for al Zarqawi, a former petty criminal turned jihad warlord, he has not been heard of in public for three months. http://www.telegraphindia.com/1060405/asp/foreign/story_6059720.asp
