This blog is devoted to topics that interest me and perhaps I'll post information that "the mainstream media" chooses to ignore or deemphasize. The point here is not to debate what I post, just consider it another point of view if you disagree with it, you know, be "open minded" and "tolerant."

Casting Stones at the Pyramids

...Recent analysis of pyramid fragments strongly suggests that some of the stones were cast, not quarried. Comparison of the chemical makeup of these fragments to that of stone from nearby quarries shows them to be different. Dr. Michel Barsoum, reporting his findings in the Journal of the American Ceramic Society, has demonstrated that the relative amounts of the elements silicon, calcium, and magnesium in the pyramids fragments differ markedly from the ratios in limestone from the quarries. In addition, these elements are chemically combined in a way not found in nature.

Furthermore, the ground-up limestone components of the pyramid concrete have chemical characteristics seen only in man-made stone. Specifically, the tiny particles of limestone are hydrated; that is, they are chemically bound to elements of water. When limestone crystallizes naturally, these elements of water disappear, but rapid crystallization in man-made limestone traps these elements in the crystals. Such hydrated limestone is the type of limestone which Dr. Barsoum, using electron microscopy, found in the pyramid fragments, demonstrating that the fragments consist of man-made material…

...Dr. Davidovits has since demonstrated a technique for casting blocks which could dry without tell-tale wood grain marks from the molds. Adding support to this theory, analysis of stone from a pyramid passageway has revealed air bubbles like those that form in plaster.

Dr. Barsoum suggests these cast stones would have been most useful for building the perfectly-fit casings of the pyramids and for the portions at great elevation, as casting stones in those places would be more practical than hauling them up steep ramps…

'Crazy' views of Weather Channel climatologist assailed
February 21, 2007

A growing number of meteorologists are publicly countering the claims of environmental activists who argue manmade global warming threatens the planet's existence.

The Weather Channel's climate expert, Heidi Cullen, recently said the American Meteorological Society should revoke its "seal of approval" from any television meteorologist who does not believe in manmade global warming. However, a veteran meteorologist and hurricane expert says Cullen's views on global warming are "crazy" and "misinformed."

"I wonder how she knows so much more than the rest of us," says Dr. William Gray, a professor emeritus in the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University. "I doubt if she has as much experience with the atmosphere and knows as much as the long-term TV weathermen who have been at it for many decades and have a built-in understanding for how the atmosphere ticks," offers Gray, who has been called "the world's foremost hurricane expert."

Last week a panel of veteran Cleveland TV meteorologists said global warming should not be considered a scientific fact. One of the panelists estimated that 95 percent of meteorologists nationwide shared his skepticism over global warming.

Hillary Vows to Negotiate with Terrorists as Commander in Chief

February 21, 2007 -- MIAMI - Hillary Rodham Clinton vowed yesterday ..."When I'm president, I'm going to send a message to the world that America is back - we're not the arrogant power that we've been acting like for the last six years," Sen. Clinton said during her first campaign stop in the Sunshine State.

"We want to be an admired country again in the world," Clinton said to applause from a predominantly black audience gathered for her town-hall-style chat in the Liberty City section of Miami...

...In a sharp shot at President Bush's policy against bargaining with the terrorist-supporting nations Iran and Syria, she quipped: "I don't think you get very far in life if you just point fingers at somebody and say, 'We think you're bad. We're never going to talk to you.' "

"I don't think that's the way the world works,".... later adding, "you don't make peace with your friends." (what does that mean?)

Organic farming 'no better for the environment' and often contributing more to global warming than intensive agriculture

2/21/07

Organic food may be no better for the environment than conventional produce and in some cases is contributing more to global warming than intensive agriculture, according to a government report.

The first comprehensive study of the environmental impact of food production found there was "insufficient evidence" to say organic produce has fewer ecological side-effects than other farming methods...

...Sir David King, the Government's chief scientist, also told The Independent he agreed that organic food was no safer than chemically-treated food...

...Ken Green, professor of environmental management at MBS, who co-wrote the report, said: "You cannot say that all organic food is better for the environment than all food grown conventionally. If you look carefully at the amount of energy required to produce these foods you get a complicated picture. In some cases, the carbon footprint for organics is larger."

...The report said: "There is certainly insufficient evidence available to state that organic agriculture overall would have less of an environmental impact than conventional agriculture.

"In particular, organic agriculture poses its own environmental problems in the production of some foods, either in terms of nutrient release to water or in terms of climate change burdens."

...Similar findings were recorded with organic chickens, where the longer growing time means it has a higher impact on all levels, including producing nearly double the amount of potentially polluting by-products and consuming 25 per cent more energy.

Vegetable production was also highlighted as a source of increased use of resources. Organic vine tomatoes require almost 10 times the amount of land needed for conventional tomatoes and nearly double the amount of energy....

An Inconvenient Truth about the Oscars

Egomaniac Al basically tells the suffering at Darfor, “I want my MTV and my Oscar, go eat cake!”

Al Gore has been spending the bulk of his time campaigning hard with voting members of the Academy for Motion Picture Arts, committing more than $500,000 of his own money to the PR campaign set up to win him an Oscar.

When Gore and his aides were approached about providing similar dollar amounts in support of ending the slaughter in Darfur, he declined, say fundraisers for the Darfur initiative.

It isn't surprising, then, that Gore is willing to overlook other inconvenient angles in his pursuit to end global warming. Despite advice from some of his environmental advisers, Gore is insisting that there be a musical performance of some kind from Antarctica during the July 7th "Inconvenient Truth" 24-hour concert to end global warming.

"He has people saying that it would send the wrong message to do anything down there for commercial purposes, but he wants this multi-continent concert and this is what he's demanding," says a source involved in the planning and promotion for the concert.

Gore and his people also have plans in place to hit up just about every major corporation in America to underwrite the massive event, including automakers and major, multinational manufacturers...

Nancy Pelosi Backs Tuition Breaks for Illegal Aliens

Feb. 20, 2007

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is touting congressional Democrats' push to make college more affordable for young people, including those without legal residency...

...In a news conference following the meeting, Pelosi made reference to the effect of Proposition 300, an Arizona initiative passed by voters in November that requires illegal immigrants to pay out-of-state tuition to attend public universities and community colleges.

"Our country does not benefit by our depriving young people of an education," Pelosi said.

Liberal emotion vs. Conservative logic

By John Hawkins Friday, February 16, 2007

...Just to name one example of many, look at Vietnam. South Vietnam was policing its own country and holding off aggression from the North with the help of the United States. But, people get hurt in wars, so wars are bad. As a result of thinking that went no deeper than that, liberals in Congress cut off the aid and air support we promised the South Vietnamese. The result?

The conquest of South Vietnam, a holocaust in Cambodia, millions dead and in prison camps, another million boat people, a crisis of confidence in America, and our country's reputation around the world was left in tatters, which led to a revolution in Nicaragua, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and a lack of faith in the U.S. military which wasn't truly restored until Operation Desert Storm.

So, we're talking about one of the most shameful and damaging mistakes in American history. Yet, the left is pushing to do the same thing in Iraq, despite the fact that catastrophic consequences would surely also follow a U.S. retreat in that country.

But, this isn't just about foreign policy. Look at Lyndon Johnson's "war on poverty," which did nothing to reduce the poverty rate despite the trillions that were spent; however, it did help drive the illegitimacy rate among black Americans from 22 percent in 1960 to 70% in 2005.

You could go on and on with these sort of examples -- rent control, which causes housing shortages, the minimum wage, which costs poor people jobs, the liberal insistence on putting “making nice at the U.N.” above looking out for American interests. That's what happens when you make decisions based on emotion and wanting people to like you, rather than using logic and doing the right thing...

Democrats Backtrack on Bipartisanship

Feb. 20, 2007

Democrats who control the House have reneged on vows to encourage minority participation in the legislative process and have instead muscled through their agenda with little debate.

Of nine major bills passed by the House during this session, Republicans have been permitted to make amendments to only one...

...In May, before the Democrats won control of Congress, current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said bills should come to the floor under a procedure allowing "open, full and fair debate consisting of a full amendment process.” After the November election, Pelosi said "respect for minority participation in this House” is "the right thing to do.”

But thus far Democrats have largely bypassed the usual legislative committees and brought their agenda straight to the floor for passage.

According to the Post, "some say Democrats risk being accused of the same abuse of power that Republicans were charged with when they were running Capitol Hill.”

Film on Anti-Slavery Pioneer Triggers New Campaign

February 21, 2007 - On the 200th anniversary of the end of the British slave trade, a film company whose latest movie commemorates abolitionist William Wilberforce is supporting a modern-day campaign to raise public awareness of the impact of slavery today.

"Amazing Grace," a film by the Bristol Bay production company, goes on general release on Wednesday. It examines the life of Wilberforce, a member of Parliament who initiated a petition for the abolition of slavery which led to the passing of Britain's 1807 abolition law.

...Republican 2008 presidential nomination hopeful Sen. Sam Brownback (Kansas) on Friday introduced a resolution to honor Wilberforce.

"We must continue to follow Wilberforce's example and fight for the dignity and freedom of every person," he said. "It is intolerable that 200 years after Britain banned its slave trade, there are still hundreds of thousands of victims of human trafficking who are used as bonded labors, sex slaves, and in other horrifying capacities."

Sudan and Mauritania are among countries where slavery is still being practiced, according to anti-slavery campaign groups...

Non-binding Resolutions:

Sending a binding message to our soldiers and our enemies

By Jeff Emanuel

...The fact that these resolutions are non-binding has caused many supporters to argue that there is no harm being done, either to the war effort or to troop, and say that these resolutions simply serve to send a message to the President that Congress disapproves of his handling of the war, and will be watching him closely from here on out.

They are correct on one count: the resolutions do, in fact, send a message – but it’s not to the White House. The only people a non-binding resolution sends a message to are our troops and our enemies, letting the former know that the vital backing from their homeland — both in will and in finances — is on life-support, and telling the latter that the American front in this war is so fractured that our determination to keep fighting could evaporate at any time, leading not only to the sacrifice of our troops in-theater, but also to an even greater emboldening of this enemy. Said Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, “It's pretty clear that a resolution that in effect says that the general going out to take command of the arena shouldn't have the resources he thinks he needs to be successful certainly emboldens the enemy and our adversaries.” Neither our troops nor our enemies are ignorant fools – they both hear and understand the messages being sent by Congress...
