This blog is devoted to topics that interest me and perhaps I'll post information that "the mainstream media" chooses to ignore or deemphasize. The point here is not to debate what I post, just consider it another point of view if you disagree with it, you know, be "open minded" and "tolerant."

04/03/07
WASHINGTON, April 3-- U.S. Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman said a $569 million, 285-megawatt coal-fired power plant will be constructed near Orlando, Fla.

Bodman said the facility will be one of the cleanest, most efficient plants of its kind. The plant will be co-owned by the Southern Power Co., the Orlando Utilities Commission, and engineering and construction company Kellogg, Brown and Root, formerly a subsidiary of Halliburton Energy Services... [oh, nooooooooo it’s evil Halliburton...]

...Energy officials said the plant will demonstrate an advanced power generation system that uses a form of integrated gasification-combined cycle technology and state-of-the-art emission controls.

Children in India cheaper than buffaloes
Apr 3, 2007
NEW DELHI - Traffickers are selling children in India for amounts that are often lower than the cost of animals and most of them end up working as laborers or commercial sex workers, activists said on Tuesday.

"Children are purchased like buffaloes," said Bhuvan Ribhu of Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save the Childhood Movement), quoting a study that is due to be released later this year.

"While buffaloes may cost up to 15,000 rupees ($350), children are sold at prices between 500 and 2,000 rupees ($12 and $45)," he told Reuters...

Teachers drop the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslims
April 3, 2007
Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, a Government backed study has revealed. It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting [Muslim] students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial...

OK, so if I'm a “Gorebal warming denier” or a “homosexuality is OK” denier then I wouldn't be forced to be exposed to those things? Or are Muslims the only protected class??

Hostage Drill at NJ School Features Mock 'Christian Terrorists'
4/2/2007
The head of a national, Texas-based pro-family group says a recent hostage drill at a New Jersey high school, which portrayed conservative Christians as terrorists, is reflective of a dangerous philosophy that has become prevalent in many parts of America, where it is having negative effects on education.

A local paper reports that a drill at Burlington Township High School in New Jersey involved police portraying mock gunmen, described as "members of a right-wing fundamentalist group called the 'New Crusaders' who don't believe in the separation of church and state." The fake gunmen were said to have been "seeking justice because the daughter of one [member] had been expelled for praying before class."

Historian and constitutional expert David Barton is president of WallBuilders, a national pro-family organization...says the stereotyping used in the high school's drill is an accurate indicator of what is being taught in public schools in the Northeast region of the country...

Woman seeks equity for her Muslim kin
From Mormon to Catholic to Muslim... she's a winner all right... I imagine all the cults are beating a path to here door right now.
"she came across a Muslim woman in a book she was reading, saw the way the woman was dressed and decided that she would convert to Islam."

4/3/07

...When she was young, she wanted to be a nun. She ran away from home, in fact, to be a nun, and when that didn’t work out, she came across a Muslim woman in a book she was reading, saw the way the woman was dressed and decided that she would convert to Islam...

It hasn’t been easy. It was a battle getting her Mormon parents to accept her conversion to Islam....

...She has been seeing some disturbing indications that many Muslim women, particularly those who converted to the religion or who were born in America, were being used by Muslim men she described as “visa, green card and citizenship hunters.”

Ms. Al-Iman said she is also concerned about the abuse of certain Islamic practices such as polygamy and temporary marriages. She spoke of a recent case in which a Jordanian, who has a wife in that country, married a converted woman in Maine as a means to get a green card.

When the wife in Maine filed for divorce, the man married a Worcester woman without disclosing that he had a wife in Jordan. Then as soon as he received a 10-year green card, the man left his Worcester wife, according to Ms. Al-Iman.

While acknowledging that the Quran allows a man to marry “two or three or four” wives, Ms. Al-Iman said “a prospective bride is entitled to know about any other wife, including any spouses back home,” she said.

...she also knows that her outspokenness will earn her further scorn from those who now think of her as the “American disobedient wife.”

“I know some will think of me that way, but I am standing for the right jihad,” she said.

Rosie O'Donnell advances another nut job theory…
April 2, 2007
Everyone's seen Rosie O'Donnell's aborted attempts to mimic the success of Oprah Winfrey. She's tried the talk show, and she's tried the self-titled magazine. Now it seems she's aiming for a "Kook of the Month" Club.

O'Donnell, who once called George Bush a "war criminal" who "should be tried at the Hague" and who thinks Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was tortured into giving up fake confessions, has now given credence to what has to be the absurdest Grand Conspiracy theory in decades: the "World Trade Center Tower No. 7 cover-up." This is the belief that WTC No. 7 was deliberately blown up to coincide with the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11... read the rest at

'Very active' hurricane season predicted
4/3/2007
The 2007 Atlantic hurricane season should be "very active," with nine hurricanes and a good chance that at least one major hurricane will hit the U.S. coast, a top researcher said Tuesday.

Forecaster William Gray said he expects 17 named storms in all this year, five of them major hurricanes with sustained winds of 111 mph or greater. The probability of a major hurricane making landfall on the U.S. coast this year: 74 percent, compared with the average of 52 percent over the past century, he said.

Here’s how 2006 panned out: ...[in 2006] There were 10 named Atlantic storms in 2006 and five hurricanes, two of them major, in what was considered a "near normal" season. None of those hurricanes hit the U.S. Atlantic coast...

This from last years prediction:
NOAA PREDICTS VERY ACTIVE 2006 NORTH ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON
May 22, 2006 — NOAA today announced to America and its neighbors throughout the north Atlantic region that a very active hurricane season is looming, and encouraged individuals to make preparations to better protect their lives and livelihoods...

..."For the 2006 north Atlantic hurricane season, NOAA is predicting 13 to 16 named storms, with eight to 10 becoming hurricanes, of which four to six could become 'major' hurricanes of Category 3 strength or higher," added retired Navy Vice Adm. Conrad C. Lautenbacher, Ph.D., undersecretary of commerce for oceans and atmosphere and NOAA administrator...

...Warmer ocean water combined with lower wind shear, weaker easterly trade winds, and a more favorable wind pattern in the mid-levels of the atmosphere are the factors that collectively will favor the development of storms in greater numbers and to greater intensity. Warm water is the energy source for storms while favorable wind patterns limit the wind shear that can tear apart a storm's building cloud structure.

This confluence of conditions in the ocean and atmosphere is strongly related to a climate pattern known as the multi-decadal signal, which has been in place since 1995. Since then, nine of the last 11 hurricane seasons have been above normal, with only two below-normal seasons during the El Niño years of 1997 and 2002...

...concerns about a 1984 trip Obama made to Libya, where he met with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. "Wright states a lot of [Obama's] Jewish support will dry up quicker than a snowball in Hades [because of that meeting]," she suggests.
