'Pig Tarts' rename call

A baker has been told to rename her novelty 'Pig Tarts' because they do not contain any pork.
Val Temple, who runs Sgt Bun Bakery,
She also said she was told to rename her 'Robin Tarts', as the bird does not feature in the ingredients, and her 'Paradise Slice' would also have to have a new moniker because it doesn't come from paradise.

...They discovered that the newly grown cells, both nerve and non-nerve, grew from HBCs-a population of cells not previously known for repair abilities. “We were stunned because HBCs normally don’t grow much or do anything,” says Reed. “And the most surprising thing is that HBCs can grow into both nerves and non-nerve cells; they do so by generating the other active type of nasal stem cell.”

Defense Official Contradicts Murtha Claim that Petraeus Didn't 'Talk to Any of Us'
May 03, 2007
Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) this week criticized Gen. David Petraeus for not meeting with members of Congress during a recent visit to Washington, D.C., to report on the status of operations in Iraq, but not only did the commander of Multinational Force - Iraq meet with hundreds of lawmakers, he personally briefed Murtha himself.
Murtha told MSNBC's Chris Matthews on Tuesday, "They bring Petraeus back - purely political move. Petraeus comes back here. He doesn't talk to any of us. He only talks to the news media and so forth trying to sell this program."
But a senior Defense Department official told Cybercast News Service that Petraeus personally briefed Murtha and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in an April 24 phone conference that lasted 20-30 minutes.
The following day, Petraeus conducted two 90-minute, top-secret level operations intelligence briefings for representatives and senators.
The first, to which all members of the House of Representatives had been invited, was attended by 250 congressmen, and the second was attended by 86 senators. After brief opening statements at the two briefings, Petraeus spent the remaining time answering questions from the congressmen in attendance...
...Roll Call reported on April 18 that Pelosi had initially declined the Pentagon's request to arrange a meeting for Petraeus with members of the House.
"According to an administration official, Pelosi and Armed Services Chairman Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) initially declined recent requests from the Defense Department to schedule a briefing ... panel aides said they were 'too busy' to schedule a meeting next week, the administration official said. A second attempt to set up a briefing with the Speaker's office was likewise declined," the newspaper reported.
House Minority Leader John Boehner [R-Ohio] criticized Pelosi's reluctance to meet in person with Petraeus.
The Washington Times on April 26 quoted Boehner as saying that Pelosi had met with President Bashar Assad of

Climate change hits Mars
April 29, 2007
Mars is being hit by rapid climate change and it is happening so fast that the red planet could lose its southern ice cap, writes Jonathan Leake.
Scientists from Nasa say that Mars has warmed by about 0.5C since the 1970s. This is similar to the warming experienced on Earth over approximately the same period.
Since there is no known life on Mars it suggests rapid changes in planetary climates could be natural phenomena...

Inhofe says Gore still won't take energy pledge
April 30, 2007
The most vocal global warming skeptic in the U.S. Senate says he believes former Vice President Al Gore is losing the debate over climate change. Last month, U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Oklahoma) challenged Gore to sign a pledge to reduce his home energy use to that of the average American household; but Gore, whose Tennessee home consumes 20 times as much energy as the average American's home, has refused to take the pledge.
Inhofe is convinced he and other skeptics are winning the fight over global warming. He says, "There is a level of desperation [on Gore's part]; his entire life, his career, everything in his life is wrapped up in this assumption that man-made gases are causing climate change, and most of his supporters, the scientists of 10 years ago, who believed that he was right have come over to the other side now because the science just isn't there."
MIT meteorology professor Richard Lindzen recently said Al Gore's goal is not to battle global warming but to become a billionaire. Inhofe also points out a possible financial motivation for Gore, observing, "When you stop and think about the fact that he gets $200,000 a speech, he has to be concerned that that's going to come to an end."

Ocean currents to blame for [global]warming

...Dr Gray had harsh words for researchers and politicians who said man-made greenhouse gases were responsible for global warming.
"They are blaming it all on humans, which is crazy," he said.
"We're not the cause of it."
Dr Gray said in the past 40 years the number of serious hurricanes making landfall on the US Atlantic coast had declined even though carbon dioxide levels had risen.
He said increasing levels of carbon dioxide would not produce more, or stronger, hurricanes.
Dr Gray, 77, has long criticised the theory that heat-trapping gases generated by human activity are causing the world to warm.
Earlier this month, he dubbed former

Global warming debate 'irrational': scientists
April 26, 2007
The current debate about global warming is "completely irrational," and people need to start taking a different approach, say two
Patterson said much of the up-to-date research indicates that "changes in the brightness of the sun" are almost certainly the primary cause of the warming trend since the end of the "Little Ice Age" in the late 19th century. Human emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), the gas of concern in most plans to curb climate change, appear to have little effect on global climate, he said.
"I think the proof in the pudding, based on what (media and governments) are saying, (is) we're about three quarters of the way (to disaster) with the doubling of CO2 in the atmosphere," said Patterson. "The world should be heating up like crazy by now, and it's not. The temperatures match very closely with the solar cycles."
Patterson explained CO2 is not a pollutant, but an essential plant food.
Billions of taxpayers' dollars are spent to control the emissions of this benign gas, in the mistaken belief that they can stop climate change, he said.

Teachers insist: Being 'gay' good
April 29, 2007
A nationally distributed training video produced by a "gay" advocacy group – which claims it's been shown on more than 100 public television stations – advises teachers to promote homosexuality as normal and healthy to children as young as kindergarten age, regardless of what values the child has been taught at home.
"We are asking kids to believe this [homosexuality] is right. Not as a matter of moral principle, but as a matter of, we're educating them and this is part of what we consider to be a healthy education," one unidentified teacher said during the videotaped meeting of educators preparing to teach – or as their critics charge, "brainwash" – their students...
...The comments are just some of what is horrifying parents who now are seeing video clips of the "It's Elementary" video prepared for use in schools.
Brian Camenker, who heads the Mass Resistance organization http://massresistance.org/ , has publicized the videos, and told WND said people are flooding his office with calls, asking what they can do.
"They're physically sickened by watching that. People with kids are wondering is this what's going to happen to them in schools in
"It's one thing in the abstract to read about what's happening in the schools, it's another thing to actually see it," he said.
The videos are available for viewing at http://www.massresistance.org/media/video/brainwashing.html .
The excerpts show actual footage of teachers indoctrinating children that homosexuality is "healthy education."

...In a book that is hard on Bush-administration hawks, Tenet writes, “
Intelligence professionals did not try to tell policymakers what they wanted to hear, nor did the policymakers lean on us to influence outcomes.” He notes that the CIA underestimated Saddam’s progress toward a nuke before the first Persian Gulf War. That surely colored Dick Cheney’s view and “had a profound impact on my views and those of many of our analysts.”
Tenet argues that WMDs weren’t really that important to the administration’s case for war. He’s right that it wasn’t the only reason, but it was central. Tenet writes that it was believed if Saddam had to produce his own fissile material, he might produce a nuclear weapon in the “2007 to 2009” period (in other words, right about now). If he got the fissile material from elsewhere, “it would not be hard for the regime to make a weapon within a year.”
For an American president considering that information in the post-9/11 environment, the case for military action against Saddam had to be close to a ... well, choose your own basketball metaphor...

New book exposes 'the real Che Guevara'

However, the real Ernesto "Che" Guevara was a cold-blooded murderer, Fontova contends. "The Castro-Che regime incarcerated more political prisoners as a percentage of population than Stalin's regime in the
Yet somehow, Guevara is viewed as a saint and selfless martyr by liberals, the author observes. He says of Guevara, "Worldwide, he is the most recognized emblem of anti-Americanism -- how cool can you possibly get, right? -- and that automatically endears him to a certain mentality."
Nevertheless, Fontova asserts, it is no exaggeration to state that Guevara, who was captured and killed nearly 40 years ago, was the godfather of modern terrorism. The author says he hopes his new book will help dispel the myth about this Cuban cult figure who is so idolized by the American left.
