This blog is devoted to topics that interest me and perhaps I'll post information that "the mainstream media" chooses to ignore or deemphasize. The point here is not to debate what I post, just consider it another point of view if you disagree with it, you know, be "open minded" and "tolerant."

Jerry Clower told joke this morning about his cousin Eugene Ledbetter who was working out in the field when this preacher walks up to him and starts asking him questions.

Preacher: "Are you a Christian?"

Eugne: "No, I'm a Ledbetter."

Preacher: "No boy, I mean are you lost?"

Eugne:"No, I’ve lived around here my whole life."

Preacher: "No, what I'm gettin' at is, are you ready for the Rapture?"

Eugne: "When is it?"

Preacher: "It could be tomorrow or it could be the next day."

Eugne: "Don't tell my wife because she'll want to go to go on both days."

Why is a Laundromat a really bad place to pick up a woman?Because a woman who can't even afford a washing machine will probably never be able to support you.

Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.

Grieving Amish raise money for killer's family
October 4, 2006 In what's being called a stunning example of "the imitation of Christ," the Amish community devastated by the cold-blooded murder of five of its schoolgirls is raising money for the killer's family.

Amish residents of rural Lancaster County, Pa., have started a charity fund to help not only the victims' families – but also the mass-murderer's widow and children, reports the New York Times today. The killer, Charles Carl Roberts IV, 32, committed suicide at the end of Monday's attack, in which he shot 10 girls. Five of them, aged 7 to 13, died.

Dwight Lefever, a spokesman for the Roberts family, said an Amish neighbor comforted the killer's family and extended forgiveness to them after the shooting, the Associated Press reports.

Explaining the Amish way, Gertrude Huntington, an expert on children in Amish society, told the AP that Roberts' Amish neighbors would probably be very supportive of the killer and his wife, "because judgment is in God's hands: 'Judge not, that ye be not judged.'"

... Reacting to the Amish outpouring of support for the killer's family, columnist Rod Dreher writes: "Yesterday on NBC News, I saw an Amish midwife who had helped birth several of the girls murdered by the killer say that they were planning to take food over to his family's house. She said – and I paraphrase closely – "This is possible if you have Christ in your heart."

And Journalist Tom Shachtman, who wrote a book on Amish culture called "Rumspringa: To Be or Not to Be Amish," told the New York Times: "This is imitation of Christ at its most naked. If anybody is going to turn the other cheek in our society, it's going to be the Amish."

... Added Huntington, "They know their children are going to heaven. They know their children are innocent ... and they know that they will join them in death. The hurt is very great," she told the Associated Press. "But they don't balance the hurt with hate." http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=52296

Shoot Me First
October 5, 2006 ...As four of the five young girls killed Monday were laid to rest, tales of selfless heroism emerged of one 13 year old victim who reportedly asked killer Charles Roberts to "shoot me first," to save her classmates...

...As the services went ahead, ABC News reported a stunning tale of bravery from the oldest victim, Fisher, who reportedly stepped forward and told Roberts to gun her down in a bid to save her classmates.

"Shoot me first," Fisher said, ABC reported, quoting Rhodes.

Fisher's younger sister Barbie, who survived, then reportedly said: "shoot me second."

"There was a tremendous amount of calm and courage in that schoolroom," said Rhodes...

...The father of several survivors of the Amish school killings meanwhile told how girls questioned the gunman as to why he was carrying out the attack before he opened fire.

Leroy Zook told the New York Times: "And he told them why: He's angry at God, he's just bitter. He told them that they're supposed to pray for him that he wouldn't do this."

Zook's 20-year-old daughter Emma Mae, a teacher, was among those who, along with her mother, escaped the school and called police, the Times said. Another of Zook's daughters, two of his daughters-in-law and two grandchildren also escaped unharmed, the daily said.

Zook told the Times he had shaken hands with the father-in-law of Roberts since the siege.

"I think it's helping him to meet people, too, and see that there's no grudge," he told the Times. "How could you hold a grudge against the wife, the family?" http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20061005/wl_afp/uscrimeschoolshooting_061005180104

American Minute with Bill Federer October 2
Historian Arnold Joseph Toynbee died October 2, 1975.

Providing foreign intelligence for the British, he was a delegate to the Paris Peace Conferences after World Wars I and II.

Educated at Oxford "almost entirely in the Greek and Latin Classics," he taught at King's College, University of London and the Royal Institute of International Affairs.

His 12-volume "Study of History," 1934-61, described the rise, flowering, and decline of 26 cultures, from Egypt, Greece, and Rome to Polynesia and Peru. "Civilizations die from suicide, not by murder," argued Toynbee, who saw religion as the prime motivation in history.

"When I started, religion was not a prominent feature... In writing my study, I have been constantly surprised to find religion coming back to fill an even greater place... So what does the universe look like?... It looks as if everything were on the move either toward its Creator or away from Him."

Toynbee wrote: "The course of human history consists of a series of encounters...in which each man or woman or child...is challenged by God to make the free choice between doing God's will and refusing to do it.

When Man refuses, he is free to make his refusal and to take the consequences."

Maryland School Sued for Refusing to Let Girl Read Bible
October 04, 2006A conservative civil liberties group has filed suit against a school in Greenbelt, Md., for violating the constitutional rights of a seventh-grader who was allegedly threatened with discipline for reading her Bible in school.

...said John W. Whitehead, president and founder of the Rutherford Institute, which represents Amber Mangum in the case "She is in a public school where there is no religious influence. So she eats her lunch, she's taking a break, she's reading her Bible, and this school official comes up to her and says she's going to be disciplined if she doesn't stop reading it," Whitehead added.

...According to the student's mother, Maryanne Mangum, Amber was reading her Bible after finishing her lunch when Rainey gave her a "verbal warning" to put the Bible away.

Amber was told she "was not allowed to read it, and if it happened again," Amber would be punished, her mother said. "She didn't take the Bible back to school."

The school district's policy, along with the guidelines under the U.S. Department of Education's 2003 No Child Left Behind Act, gives students the right to read Bibles or other religious scriptures during lunch hour, recess or other non-instructional times.

"NCLBA, which is federal law that came in under the Bush administration, actually has this provision stating that students have a right to read their Bibles or other religious scriptures during the school day. It provides for that. It says also that you can actually get your federal funding taken away if you violate the NCLBA," Whitehead explained…

Well, what do you know… oil where there wasn’t suppose to be any…
Oil discovered in Dead Sea areaJerusalem Post
Oct. 4, 2006

Oil has been discovered in the Dead Sea area, Dr. Eli Tenenbaum, an official from Genco, the national company responsible for drilling in the region, reported on Wednesday. Tenenbaum stated that the amount of oil could reach commercial levels.

"We noticed that the pressure in the area was very high and when we opened the tap, oil started flowing freely for several minutes," Tenenbaum told Channel 10.

Tenenbaum said that the workers washed their hands with the "black gold" when they made the discovery. "We hope it was the first of many [such discoveries]," he added excitedly.

Not far from the drilling site, the crew spotted an oil reserve that Tenenbaum described as "very attractive," which they believed contained between four and six million barrels, worth an estimated 300 million dollars.

The operation began 10 years ago but was put on hold since it was not deemed economically viable. However, due to the recent soaring oil prices the discovery of new oil sources became necessary…

Oil continues dive
Oct 3, 2006 Oil tumbled more than two dollars on Tuesday to below $59 a barrel, sinking to the lowest level since February and prompting OPEC's president to call on the exporter group to deepen supply cuts.

The drop extended a 6 percent slide over two days, pressured by ample fuel stockpiles in top consumer the United States and no evidence of other OPEC members joining Nigeria and Venezuela in cutting output.

US forecaster says no more major hurricanes in '06
(in other words the "experts" were wrong, remember that when experts like Al Gore tell you about man-made Global Warming)
Oct 3, MIAMI - A noted hurricane forecaster on Tuesday predicted the Atlantic hurricane season will see just two more tropical storms and no more "major" hurricanes.

William Gray's forecast team at Colorado State University predicted the season will produce a total of 11 tropical storms, of which six will be hurricanes. To date, nine storms have formed and five have reached hurricane strength.

UN report says US breaking Al-Qaeda
I wonder why this has gotten no attention at all. From the New York Daily News:

UN Report Says U.S. Breaking Al-Qaeda – James Gordon Meek (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/wn_report/story/456354p-384073c.html)

A survey for the UN Security Council made public Wednesday concluded that al-Qaeda “may see more losses than gains” in Iraq.

The flow of foreign fighters into Iraq has slowed to a trickle, and the slaying of Al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi may have confused the uprising.

Jihadists have reportedly been angered at being turned away from the fight against U.S. forces by Iraqis, who often offer only suicide bombing missions, the UN report said. http://www.americanthinker.com/comments.php?comments_id=6254

Fear of Iran Pushing Saudi Arabia Toward Israel, Experts Say
September 28, 2006 Jerusalem - Seeking regional allies to make a stand against Iran and the growing Shi'ite Muslim radicalization, Saudi Arabia sees Israel as a likely ally, experts here said on Thursday…

…Earlier this week, Israeli press reports suggested that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met recently with a senior official in the Saudi government, maybe even with the Saudi king.

...Whether or not the contacts took place, Saudi Arabia and Israel undoubtedly have a mutual interest -- Iran, said Dr. Guy Bechor from the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya.

Saudi Arabia, a majority Sunni Muslim country, is concerned about the strengthening of ties between Shi'ite Muslims in Iran and Iraq and with Hizballah in Lebanon, said Bechor…

"[The Saudis fear that] if there is some type of attack against Iran from the West, Iran will hit Saudi Arabia," said Bechor in a telephone interview.

Saudi Arabia is looking for friends and connections in the region and is working to create a Sunni alliance together with Turkey, Egypt and Jordan, and that anti-terror alliance could secretly include Israel, said Bechor.

…The real threat to Saudi stability is Iranian aspirations… The Arabs understand that the Iranian claim of wanting to destroy Israel is only a cover-up for their real intentions, which are to take over the Gulf States. There are two motivations for wanting to do so: Tehran wants to unite the Shiites in the Gulf and for the oil, Kedar said...

Political Correctness run amok, but on the other hand it’s probably best he doesn’t serve…
UK Muslim cop wins right not to protect Israeli embassy
Objected to duty on 'moral grounds' – opposed bombings in Lebanon
...Alexander Omar Basha - a member of the Metropolitan Police's Diplomatic Protection Group - refused to be posted there because he objected to Israeli bombings in Lebanon and the resulting civilian casualties of fellow Muslims.

In a move which has caused widespread astonishment at Scotland Yard, senior officers in the DPG agreed that that PC Basha should be given an alternative posting.

The officer, who carries a gun, is now thought to be guarding another embassy. ...Alexander Basha - in his late twenties and with a neatly-trimmed beard - is understood he has recently taken part in recent anti-war protests. (protesting all wars or certain wars…?)

Critics accused Met chiefs of bowing to political correctness, saying the decision set a dangerous precedent.

A senior source in the Metropolitan Police Federation said: 'We are expected to serve people without fear or favour. You treat them according to their needs whether you agree with their political or religious views or not.

"Officers should not be allowed to pick and choose where they work in this way."

....Met Commissioner Sir Ian Blair, who has been dubbed Britain's most politically correct police chief, had "absolutely no involvement in the case".

But Met insiders blame Sir Ian for creating a culture of political correctness since taking over as head of the force in February last year.

One of the first initiatives taken by Sir Ian after taking up the post was to change the Met's log from a handwritten style to a bland type in capitals because it discriminated against short-sighted people.

Next he approved the hiring of 24 'diversity advisors' to give advice on race and gay issues to police investigating major crimes. (I guess diversity training doesn’t apply to Muslims. Image the quandary that would be created if this Muslim cop refused to protect a gay pride parade…)

Last year Sir Ian was found 'guilty' of 'hanging three white detectives out to dry' to prove his anti-racist credentials.

...Ex-Met Flying Squad commander John O'Connor, said: "This is the beginning of the end for British policing...When you join the police, you do so to provide a service to the public. If you cannot perform those duties, you leave."

French Philosophy Teacher Forced Into Hiding After Op-Ed on Islam
October 02, 2006

Paris - A French philosophy teacher has been forced to leave his home and go into hiding after publishing an op-ed piece in the French daily Le Figaro that criticized Islam and the prophet Muhammed.

Robert Redeker, a published author, wrote on September 19 that "the Koran is a book of extraordinary violence" and Islam is a religion that "exalts violence." Comparing Islam to Chritianity, he wrote: "Jesus is a master of love, Muhammed is a master of hatred."

...An Islamic website linked to al Qaeda published Redeker's photo, phone number and address, with directions.

Last Friday, interviewed on Europe 1 radio, Redeker said that he and his family had received numerous death threats by e-mail and phone. He said he has been forced to leave his high school teaching job near the southern French city of Toulouse.

...Redeker said that Islam was trying "to impose its rules on Europe" by - for example -- asking swimming pools to have special hours for women only and forbidding caricatures of Islam. "Islam is trying to force Europe to bend to its vision of mankind. As in the past with communism, the West finds itself under ideological surveillance," he wrote.

...Redeker has been placed under police protection, but he said during the radio interview that he was forced to make his own arrangements in finding safe houses each night.

...The education minister, Gilles de Robien, said he felt "solidarity" with Redeker but warned that "government employees must show prudence and moderation."

Redeker said his piece was not meant to attack Islam but only certain violent aspects of the religion.

This case comes at a time of renewed debate in Europe over free speech and the right to criticize Islam and the prophet Muhammed...

Gee, sounds like trouble between Israelis and Palestinians... I certainly don’t condone this but it’s interesting the Muslims don’t like it when the shoe is on the other foot. These things happen everyday in Muslim countries to Christians…
England : Hundreds clash in street battle
Lancashire Evening Post 10/02/2006
A teenager was stabbed when hundreds of people became involved in a battle on the streets of Preston. Trouble centred on the Jamea Masjid mosque in Clarendon Street, Avenham, for more than four hours last night (Sunday) and led to a massive policing operation.

Preston's police chief said the problems were triggered by local youths throwing stones at cars belonging to people attending the mosque. (I wonder if there was a reason?)

This sparked a response from around 200 people inside the mosque who came out to defend those under attack… (can’t blame them for that!)

…Insp Simon Hayes, force incident manager for Lancashire Police, described the incident as "community tension" with youths on the streets in a "confrontational mood".

Foley is out as well he should be. Democrats are saying the episode proves that Republicans are hypocrites. Nah, I say it proves homosexuals are liars…

Speaking of Foley, the “boy” who is 21+ now has retained a lawyer. Why would he need a lawyer? Apparently it’s coming out (no pun intended) now that the “boy” was not under 18 at the time the instant messages we exchanged, the “boy” was not a homosexual and the whole thing was a joke on Foley made up by the “boy” and passed it on to his friends as a joke and then ended up with the Democrats who held on to the info to time it for right before the election.
