Trans Fat Lawsuit Against KFC Tossed Out

May 2, 2007

A federal judge on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit brought by a doctor who accused KFC of not telling customers that it used trans fats to fry its chicken.

In an occasionally sarcastic opinion, U.S. District Judge James Robertson said Dr. Arthur Hoyte could not show that he was harmed by KFC's use of the artery-clogging fats.

Robertson also noted other flaws in the case.

"While it might be appropriate for this court to find, as a matter of law, that the consumption of fat — including trans fat — is indeed within the reasonable expectations of the consumers of fried chicken and french fries prepared in fast food kitchens, it is not necessary for me to reach that question," Robertson wrote.

And in response to Hoyte's claim that customers have a growing understanding of the dangers of trans fats, Robertson wrote: "If consumers are increasingly aware of trans fat, where do they expect to find it if not in fast food restaurants?"

The fact is in the long run saturated fats are no better for you than trans fat. If you're concerned order a salad (without dressing) and not fried chicken and French fries...

Americans are 'Cheapskates' Over Lack of Foreign Aid Spending?

May 7, 2007

Leave it to a liberal to claim that Americans are "cheapskates" because our government does not spend enough money on foreign aid. In the L.A.Times for April 13th, that is just what we are treated to with Rosa Brooks' screed titled, To the rest of the world, we're cheapskates and subtitled, "The U.S. international affairs budget -- which helps fight AIDS, poverty and more -- is just 1% of total spending."

...Brooks contends that it is because we don't have enough government spending on the international affairs budget.

...Weighing in at $36.5 billion for fiscal year 2008, the international affairs budget annually accounts for only about 1% of total federal expenditures...

...Someone should remind Mz. Brooks that it isn't the American way to show its character and generosity via compulsory government spending. In fact, Americans constantly give more money to charitable causes than any other people in history and certainly more than any other nation today.

According to the Giving Institute, charitable giving in the USA has been increasing steadily for several years. In 2003 Americans gave $240.72 billion to charitable causes which was a 2.8% increase over the amount donated in the year 2000. In 2005 giving rose a more amazing 6% with a grand total of $260.28 billion in donations to philanthropic causes.

By contrast the rest of the world isn't nearly as giving as Americans. According to CAF International, Americans individually give 1.67% of GDP whereas the UK gives only .73% while Canada gives only .72%. From there the bottom drops out with Australia giving only .69% and the rest at 40% or less. Unsurprisingly, France brings up the tail with .14% of GDP.

Americans are far and away the more generous people, so don't tell us we are "cheapskates", Mz. Brooks....

Hamas 'Mickey Mouse' Wants Islam Takeover

May 8, 2007

Hamas militants have enlisted the iconic Mickey Mouse to broadcast their message of Islamic dominion and armed resistance to their most impressionable audience—little kids.

A giant black-and-white rodent—named "Farfour," or "butterfly," but unmistakably a Mickey ripoff—does his high-pitched preaching against the U.S. and Israel on a children's show run each Friday on Al-Aqsa TV, a station run by Hamas. The militant group, sworn to Israel's destruction, shares power in the Palestinian government.

"You and I are laying the foundation for a world led by Islamists," Farfour squeaked on a recent episode of the show, which is titled, "Tomorrow's Pioneers."

"We will return the Islamic community to its former greatness, and liberate Jerusalem, God willing, liberate Iraq, God willing, and liberate all the countries of the Muslims invaded by the murderers."

Children call in to the show, many singing Hamas anthems about fighting Israel...

6 (Islamists) charged with plot on Army post in N.J.

5/8/2007

FORT DIX, N.J. - Six Islamic militants from Yugoslavia and the Middle East were arrested on charges of plotting to attack the Fort Dix Army post and "kill as many soldiers as possible," authorities said Tuesday.

In conversations secretly recorded by an FBI informant over the past year, the men talked about killing in the name of Allah and attacking U.S. warships that might dock in Philadelphia, according an FBI criminal complaint.

"This was a serious plot put together by people who were intent on harming Americans," U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie said Tuesday. "We're very gratified federal law enforcement was able to catch these people before they acted and took innocent life."

One suspect reportedly spoke of using rocket-propelled grenades to kill at least 100 soldiers at a time, according to court documents.

"If you want to do anything here, there is Fort Dix and I don't want to exaggerate, and I assure you that you can hit an American base very easily," suspect Mohamad Ibrahim Shnewer said in one conversation secretly recorded by a government informant, according to the criminal complaint.

"It doesn't matter to me whether I get locked up, arrested or get taken away," a suspect identified as Serdar Tatar said in another recorded conversation. "Or I die, it doesn't matter. I'm doing it in the name of Allah."

...Four of the men were born in the former Yugoslavia, one in Jordan and one in Turkey, officials said. All had lived in the United States for years. Three were in the country illegally; two had green cards allowing them to stay permanently; the other is a U.S. citizen.

...The men also allegedly conducted surveillance at other area military institutions, including Fort Monmouth, a U.S. Army installation, the official said.

...said Sohail Mohammed, a lawyer, "when the government says 'Islamic militants,' it sends a message to the public that Islam and militancy are synonymous... Don't equate actions with religion." (Yeah...right...)

Bill Clinton on Israel's nuclear annihilation

May 07, 2007

The next Ambassador at Large, should Mrs. Clinton become president, has gone on record in the belief that the main victims of a nuclear strike that destroys Israel would be Muslims, suffering from fallout. What a thoughtful guy!

..he said [Bill Clinton] "If a nuclear bomb ever exploded in the Middle East, even if it wiped out Israel, the main victims eventually would be all the Muslims around it who would be killed in the nuclear fallout."

To the Shores of Tripoli

By Fred Thompson

May 8, 2007

...From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli.

We fight our country's battles in the air, on land and sea.

First to fight for right and freedom, and to keep our honor clean;

We are proud to claim the title of United States Marine...

...The very first line written for the Marine Corps Hymn, about the shores of Tripoli, refers to America's first foreign war. After the Revolution, U.S. ships were sailing the world in search of trade without British protection. With no real navy to protect our merchants and travelers, American vessels and citizens were being targeted for looting, enslavement and ransom. The enemy was the so-called Barbary pirates -- agents of the North African provinces of the Ottoman Caliphate...

...Ransom and protection money were demanded and paid. Stories of terrible treatment of American men and women in the dungeons of North Africa were well known. Behind it all, the country was having a pro- and anti-war debate...

...In 1786, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams even went to London to negotiate directly with the envoy from Tripoli.

Several historians and writers have reminded us recently of the ambassador’s nearly forgotten answer. Fortunately, Jefferson prepared a written report for the government and left other records of the incident. Here’s a description from The Atlantic Monthly in 1872:

“Disguising their feelings as best they could, they ‘took the liberty to make some inquiries concerning the ground of the pretensions to make war upon nations who had done them no injury.’ The ambassador replied that it was written in their Koran, that all nations which had not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave.” He claimed every one of their guys who was “slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise."

...Still, though, congress refused to act directly against the Barbary pirates for years. Eventually, between 10 and 20 percent of U.S. revenues would be paid annually without ever buying actual safety for Americans. In the end, Thomas Jefferson acted on his own, sending forces into harm’s way. America entered into its first and protracted foreign war. From beginning to end, in fact, the conflict lasted approximately 14 years...

Scant Coverage of Brutal Crime Called ''Journalistic Malpractice''

May 08, 2007

The national news media demonstrates a double standard in covering "hate crimes," as evidenced by the lack of attention given to the murder of a white couple in Tennessee last January, a conservative columnist charged on Monday.

However, a media analyst responded that a crime is not necessarily a hate crime simply because the victims are white and those accused of perpetrating it are black.

Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23, were out on a dinner date in Knoxville, Tenn. on Jan. 6, when they were carjacked, kidnapped, tortured, raped and murdered...

...Five men and a woman, all African-American, have been arrested and face up to 46 charges, including carjacking, kidnapping, rape, premeditated murder, theft and robbery.

The case sparked considerable debate on Internet blogs, but mainstream media coverage has been modest.

AP wire reports of the killings were carried by Knoxville news outlets, CBS News and Fox News, but other major media outlets including CNN, the New York Times and the Washington Post apparently have yet to mention the story...

"True, there are some 17,000 murders committed in the U.S. each year, but this double murder was clearly far more barbaric, far more monstrous than most," he wrote. "Yet, this story has failed to attract the attention of the national media...

"Could it be because the two victims were white and the five defendants are black?" Alexander asked.

He pointed to the case in 1998 when "three white men in Jasper, Texas, beat James Byrd -- a black man -- then chained him to the back of a pickup truck and dragged him three miles to his death. Not surprisingly, Byrd's murder received national media attention -- as it should have."

When Democratic politicians seized on Byrd's murder to call for hate crimes laws, "then-Governor of Texas George Bush said there was little need for such legislation -- after all, two of the defendants were sentenced to death and the third received a life sentence," Alexander stated.

the entire article is fascinating:

http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewCulture.asp?Page=/Culture/archive/200705/CUL20070508a.html

Regarding "hate crime" legislation that Congress vote on last week... isn't all crime "hate crime"?

The difference is now if your motive for committing a crime fits a certain category then the punishment is harsher. Shouldn’t the punishment for 1st degree murder be the same regardless of what the murderer was thinking? Why is it a hate crime if a heterosexual kills a homosexual because he doesn't like homo’s worse that if someone breaks into my home and kills me for what ever reason? Why isn't it a hate crime when a homosexual kills someone because they are heterosexual? There are numerous examples of that happening and I don't think any of them were tried as hate crimes but rather they were tried as "crimes of passion" as if that is a more acceptable reason to murder someone...

Also, just having certain thoughts (even if not accompanied with any action other than verbally stating your thoughts) is now being classified as a hate crime and if your thoughts are not politically correct then you're guilty of a "hate crime." Man oh man is this idea dangerous!

Neal Boortz: Brace yourself for this one. Your tax dollars are being called upon to pay for reparations to the people of Guam for the Japanese's actions in WWII http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1829801/posts . That's right. You read it correctly! Americans will pay for what Japanese did in a war that was fought over 50 years ago.

Here's the story. A bill will be introduced this week in the House called the Guam World War II Loyalty Recognition Act http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:H.R.1595 . This act calls for reparations—costing about $135 million—for the "unspeakable harm as a result of the occupation of Guam by Imperial Japanese military forces during World War II, by being subjected to death, rape, severe personal injury, personal injury, forced labor, forced march, or internment." Now mind you, these are terrible things that happened to the people of Guam, but why do I have to pay for it? And why now?

Well it turns out that Truman signed an agreement with Japan in 1951 http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/08/15/news/guam.php basically stating that from then on, Japan is not responsible for "individual American war claims." Because Guam is a U.S. territory, the burden to compensate for Japanese abuses falls on U.S. taxpayers. Thanks a lot, Harry Truman....

Biblical creationist disputes latest 'proof' for evolution

April 26, 2007

A former evolutionist who now heads a biblical creationist ministry says the recent discovery of DNA in a dinosaur bone does not prove evolution, as many scientists have claimed. Recently, scientific journals and secular news sources reported that bits of protein taken from a dinosaur bone provided the first genetic proof that the T-Rex is a distant cousin to the modern chicken.

Dr. Grady McMurtry, president of Creation Worldview Ministries, says the discovery offers proof for a young Earth. "...Most molecular biologists will tell you that DNA could not possibly exist for more than 10,000 years," he notes. So, since evolutionists believe DNA does not last millions of years, he says the discovery of DNA in a dinosaur bone is consistent with the biblical account of creation.

Scientists who discovered the DNA are not telling the entire story, McMurtry asserts. "If one really looks at the science behind what they found today, evolutionists talk about chimpanzees and humans being ... 99 percent the same genetically," he says, "but what they fail to tell the public is that they're only looking at three percent of the total genome."

Evolutionists failed to report that they only used a small amount of the dinosaur DNA for comparison, that "they're only looking at three percent of all the DNA," the scientist contends. And media journalists, he says, often do not check the facts, as "most journalists today are not good reporters. They're not investigative reporters even though they will claim to be investigative reporters."
