This blog is devoted to topics that interest me and perhaps I'll post information that "the mainstream media" chooses to ignore or deemphasize. The point here is not to debate what I post, just consider it another point of view if you disagree with it, you know, be "open minded" and "tolerant."

Hurricane Katrina Aftermath: NADA Offers 10 Tips for Spotting a Flood-Damaged Vehicle
The devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina has left a large population of flood-damaged vehicles. NADA urges consumers, even in unaffected areas, to remain alert to the possibility that some individuals may attempt to sell or trade flood-damaged used vehicles in the months to come. "Dealers are very concerned that these affected vehicles could enter the used car market," said NADA Chairman Jack Kain. "Fortunately, there are steps that car-shoppers can take to detect water damage and protect themselves," he added... After 55 Years, Vet to Get Medal of Honor
Sep 17 Tibor Rubin kept his promise to join the U.S. Army after American troops freed him from the Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria during World War II.

A Hungarian Jew, Rubin immigrated to New York after the war, joined the Army and fought as an infantryman in the Korean War. In 1951, Chinese troops captured Cpl. Rubin and other U.S. soldiers and he became a prisoner of war for 2 1/2 years.

More than five decades later, after a relentless campaign by grateful comrades and Jewish war veterans, President Bush on Sept. 23 will give Rubin the Medal of Honor.

...When he was at the Chinese prisoners' camp known as "Death Valley," Rubin said he would pray in Hebrew for the U.S. soldiers — about 40 each day — who died in the freezing weather. He also took care of soldiers suffering from dysentery or pneumonia. Rubin called concentration camp good "basic training" for being a POW and applied lifesaving lessons he learned there. For example, Rubin said he would retrieve maggots from the prisoners' latrine and apply them to the infected wounds of his comrades to remove gangrene...As a POW, Rubin turned down repeated offers from the Chinese to be returned to his native Hungary.
...In 1988, the Jewish War Veterans of the United States urged Congress to recognize Rubin's efforts. And U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler of Florida introduced a bill in 2001 to force the Pentagon to review the records of Jewish veterans who may have been denied the Medal of Honor because they were Jews…About 150 records remain under review, said Bob Zweiman, past national commander of the Jewish War Veterans

Student Arrested After Pilot Uniform Found
September 16, 2005 MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A university student from Egypt was ordered held without bond after prosecutors said they found a pilot's uniform, chart of Memphis International Airport and a DVD titled "How an Airline Captain Should Look and Act" in his apartment…The FBI is investigating whether Mahmoud Maawad, 29, had any connection to terrorists. He is awaiting trial on charges of wire fraud and fraudulent use of a Social Security number.

Maawad, who is in the United States illegally, told the judge during a hearing Thursday that he is studying science and economics at the University of Memphis."My school is everything. I stay in this country for seven years; I stay for the school," he said.

...Maawad had ordered $3,000 in aviation materials, including DVDs titled "Ups and Downs of Takeoffs and Landings," "Airplane Talk," "Mental Math for Pilots" and "Mastering GPS Flying," FBI agent Thad Gulczynski testified.

The company reported Maawad to authorities when he didn't pay for $2,500 of merchandise it had delivered, Gulczynski said.

Atheist Religion Offended
September 16, 2005 An atheist group today thanked "Good Morning America" host Bill Weir and his network, ABC, for an on-air apology for saying during hurricane Katrina coverage: "There are no atheists in foxholes and hurricane zones."

The comment left atheists across America outraged, according to American Atheists Inc.,

...The remark by Weir was made at the end of a segment on church congregations meeting despite the hurricane damage...

The comment left atheists across America outraged, according to American Atheists Inc., a group that says it "is a nationwide movement which defends the civil rights of nonbelievers, works for the separation of church and state, and addresses issues of First Amendment public policy."

Tony Blair Pulls the Plug on Kyoto at Clinton Summit
… Onstage with former president Bill Clinton at a midtown Manhattan hotel ballroom, British Prime Minister Tony Blair said he was going to speak with "brutal honesty" about Kyoto and global warming, and he did…. Blair, a longtime supporter of the Kyoto treaty, further prefaced his remarks by noting, "My thinking has changed in the past three or four years." So what does he think now? "No country," he declared, "is going to cut its growth." That is, no country is going to allow the Kyoto treaty, or any other such global-warming treaty, to crimp -- some say cripple -- its economy. ...Interestingly, these words from Blair, addressing an audience of a thousand at the Sheraton just a few blocks north of Times Square, failed to get any pickup in the media. Even The New York Times, published just down the street, ran a story that dwelt on the star power in the room, including King Abdullah of Jordan, Jesse Jackson, and George Stephanopoulos. "Isn't this awesome?" said one participant, and those words seemed to reflect fully the Times' take on the event...

September 17
"Done...the seventeenth day of September, in the year of our LORD one
thousand seven hundred and eighty seven."
This was the last line of U.S. Constitution, which was approved this day.
A study done by Professors Donald S. Lutz and Charles S. Hyneman, in their
work "The Relative Influence of European Writers on Late Eighteenth-Century
American Political Thought" published in the American Political Science
Review, revealed that after examining nearly 15,000 writings of the
fifty-five men that wrote the Constitution, including newspaper articles,
pamphlets, books and monographs, that the Bible, especially the book of
Deuteronomy, contributed 34% of all direct quotations used by our Founding
Fathers. When indirect Bible citations were included, they found the percentage
increased to an overwhelming majority.
Regarding the Constitution, President George Washington wrote to the United
Baptist Churches of Virginia, May 10, 1789, just ten days after his
inauguration:
"If I could have entertained the slightest apprehension that the
Constitution framed by the Convention, where I had the honor to preside,
might possibly endanger the religious rights of any ecclesiastical Society,
certainly I would never have placed my signature to it."

The fifth gospel
September 17, 2005 Israel has often been called "the Fifth Gospel," because so many places in Israel testify to the historical truth of Jesus Christ. Of course, things are changing rapidly as Israel modernizes. Hills that were barren 10 years ago are now filled with apartment buildings. Although the law requires that anyone who finds an artifact stop their construction, many people, according to the local experts, ignore the law. ...Scholars from Jerusalem University, Bethlehem Bible College, and many other places provided invaluable input. And, the more they investigate the possibilities and discussed the realities, the more real the signs of God's presence became. Certain artifacts are renowned, such as the "Jesus Boat" on the shores of Lake Galilee, which was found just a couple of years ago and carefully dated to the time that Jesus was walking the shores of Galilee... ...Another, of course, is the Israel Museum, where the Dead Sea Scrolls survive. ...but it is also extremely interesting to see the similarities between communities such as the Essenes and some elements of contemporary Christian culture. ...The discovery of a nail through a heel bone has provided a new insight into how crosses were made... [I recall some use to claim that Romans didn’t crucify people they way it’s described in the Bible.] ...Discoveries about the position and nature of the Passover, the distance between Ciaphus' house and the Roman Antonio fortress near the temple provide unique insights into the Gospel... http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=46376
