This blog is devoted to topics that interest me and perhaps I'll post information that "the mainstream media" chooses to ignore or deemphasize. The point here is not to debate what I post, just consider it another point of view if you disagree with it, you know, be "open minded" and "tolerant."

North Korea might now have The Bomb, but it doesn't have much electricity

Keep in mind in 1994, even though the North Koreans have publicly stated from day one that that they wanted nuke weapons, Clinton gave the North Koreans nuclear technology on the promise that it would be used to generate electricity, and he have them billions of $$ to build the nuke "power" reactors and for food that which was instead used by their military.

How Diesel Technology Could Cut Oil Imports
One easy way to reduce both carbon-dioxide emissions and oil imports is to switch to diesel engines in cars and trucks, since they're inherently more efficient than gasoline engines. In fact, diesel engines are almost as efficient as gas-electric hybrids, without the need for hybrid technology...

...a not-for-profit educational group representing diesel equipment manufacturers, says Honda will have a diesel vehicle (probably an Accord) for the United States in three years. GM has announced a light-truck engine for 2010, as has Cummins. Meanwhile, Daimler-Chrysler is introducing a Mercedes diesel vehicle into the United States next week, and a new Jeep Grand Cherokee next year. Volkswagen also has several diesel vehicles on the market...

Dalai Lama sees Pope, says few Muslims "mischievous"
Oct 13, 2006 ROME - The Dalai Lama said after meeting Pope Benedict on Friday that "a few mischievous Muslims" should not be allowed to give the Islamic faith a bad name....

..."Nowadays I often express that due to a few mischievous Muslims' acts we should not consider all Muslims as something bad. That is very unfair," the Dalai Lama told a news conference organized by a Rome university hosting him for a seminar.

"A few mischievous people you can find among fellows from all religions -- among Muslims and Christians and Jews and Buddhists. To generalize is not correct," he said.http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=worldNews&storyID=2006-10-13T163537Z_01_L13248271_RTRUKOC_0_US-POPE-DALAI.xml&WTmodLoc=IntNewsHome_C2_worldNews-1
well, actually in this case it pretty much is correct... Dhimmi Lama?

...if you'll recall Mr. Lama it only took a few mischievous communists from China to wipe out your entire country...

Fact: when his Buddhist flock were fighting for their lives in China , the Dalai Lama ran away to Europe to chill out in four star hotels and have a speaking tour for his hippie fans.

Fact: When the Catholic flock in China was fighting for their lives, Ignatius Cardinal Kung stayed in China to be imprisoned and tortured for 30 years until he was deported.

Relatives of beheaded Iraqi priest say kidnappers demanded $350,000 & apology for pope Muslim comment
October 12, 2006
MOSUL, Iraq Relatives of an Orthodox priest who was kidnapped and found beheaded three days later said Thursday that his captors had demanded his church condemn the pope's recent comments about Islam and pay a US$350,000 (€280,000) ransom.

More than 500 people attended a memorial service Thursday for father Amer Iskender in the northern city of Mosul after his decapitated body was found Wednesday evening in an industrial area of the city.

Iskender was a priest at the St. Ephrem Orthodox church in Mosul .

...Before Iskender was kidnapped, his relatives said, the church already had put up signs condemning the statement and calling for good relations between Christians and Muslims. The message was posted again, they said, after the priest's kidnappers made their demand.

Apple's NY Fifth Avenue store is an 'insult to Islam' (see photo at link)
[Silly beyond belief, well maybe no more silly than the NCAA banning Indian names and mascots in college sports]11 October 2006
According to a report on The Middle East Media Research Institute, Apple's NY Fifth Avenue store has been slammed by "an Islamic website" as a "new insult to Islam".

The reason? Well, it resembles the Muslims' sacred Ka'ba, situated in the Masjid al-Haram mosque in Mecca :

The "Islamic website" claims that since the offending structure is known as the "Apple Mecca", and "contains bars selling alcoholic beverages", it constitutes "a blatant insult to Islam". The site accordingly calls on Muslims to spread the word in the hope that "Muslims will be able to stop the project".

Sadly, it's a bit late for that, since the store opened for business back in May. We do have some good news, though. As far as we're aware it's not called the "Apple Mecca", it does not serve alcoholic beverages, and neither Jack Straw nor Salman Rushdie work behind the counter.

Axe for teacher who kept her veil on in the classroom
England October 13, 2006
A Muslim teacher who insisted on wearing a veil in class has been suspended after the children complained they could not understand what she was saying.

Aishah Azmi, 24, was told she could wear the veil in the corridors and the staff room, but had to remove it while teaching. She refused, saying it was part of her cultural and religious identity.

But children at the junior school in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire , said they found English lessons hard to follow because they could not see Miss Azmi's lips move.

The Muslim Council of Britain criticised the teacher for insisting she had to keep her face covered. Dr Reefat Drabu said under Islamic law Muslim women were not required to wear a headscarf, let alone a veil, in the presence of young children.

Miss Azmi is now taking her employer, Kirklees council, to an employment tribunal. It will rule on her case later this month.

…Many of the 529 boys and girls aged seven to 11 at Headfield Church of England Junior School are from ethnic minorities and English is not their first language, reinforcing the need for clear English teaching…

Christians 'too evangelical' for Christian school

October 13, 2006
The Alliance Defense Fund has written a letter to a "Christian" college asking officials there to reconsider their decision to ban several national and international Christian student organizations because the groups are too evangelical….

"The real interesting thing is that Georgetown tossed these groups, but left the Muslim Student Alliance and the Jewish Student Alliance intact," French told WND. "This Christian college is giving more religious freedom to Muslims and Jews than to Christians."

…Ironically, the school recently hosted K. Anthony Appiah in an address sponsored by the Berkley Center Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs. He noted that religious differences are "made easier if there is an ongoing, respectful, cosmopolitan conversation between adherents of different religious traditions."

...."The real problem at Georgetown is the same problem that has plagued campuses across the country: an increasing intolerance for religious students and student groups (regardless of whether they are Catholic or Protestant) who take the Bible seriously and seek to live their lives under the authority of Scripture," French said in a blog on the ADF site.

Schoolgirl arrested for refusing to study with non-English pupils
England: A teenage schoolgirl was arrested by police for racism after refusing to sit with a group of Asian students because some of them did not speak English.

…The teenager had not been in school the day before due to a hospital appointment and had missed the start of a project, so the teacher allocated her a group to sit with.

"She said I had to sit there with five Asian pupils," said Codie yesterday. "Only one could speak English, so she had to tell that one what to do so she could explain in their language. Then she sat me with them and said 'Discuss'."

According to Codie, the five - four boys and a girl - then began talking in a language she didn't understand, thought to be Urdu, so she went to speak to the teacher.

"I said 'I'm not being funny, but can I change groups because I can't understand them?' But she started shouting and screaming, saying 'It's racist, you're going to get done by the police'."

Codie said she went outside to calm down where another teacher found her and, after speaking to her class teacher, put her in isolation for the rest of the day.

A complaint was made to a police officer based full-time at the school, and more than a week after the incident on September 26 she was taken to Swinton police station and placed under arrest.

"They told me to take my laces out of my shoes and remove my jewellery, and I had my fingerprints and photograph taken," said Codie. "It was awful."

After questioning on suspicion of committing a section five racial public order offence, her mother Nicola says she was placed in a bare cell for three-and-a-half hours then released without charge.

...Headteacher Dr Antony Edkins said: "We aim to ensure a caring and tolerant attitude towards people and pupils of all ethnic backgrounds and will not stand for racism in any form."

...Salford was at the centre of a storm last April after a ten-year-old boy was hauled before a court for allegedly calling an 11-year-old mixed race pupil a 'Paki' and 'Bin Laden' in a playground argument at a primary school in Irlam.

When the case came before District Judge Jonathan Finestein he said the decision to prosecute showed "how stupid the whole system is getting"...

Christian testimony allowed on Texas State Fairgrounds however passing out tracts is a right
you have to buy
October 13, 2006
A federal court in Texas has ruled that Christians are allowed to share their faith on the grounds of the Texas State Fair, but if they want to hand out tracts, they'll have to buy that right.

U.S. District Judge Jane Boyle Wednesday signed the ruling that confirms Darrell Rundus and his Great News Network are "free to spread the gospel and distribute religious tracts on the public sidewalks outside Fair Park . Moreover, within Fair Park he may continue to orally share his beliefs with fairgoers."

...the U.S. Supreme Court already has ruled that handing out information, such as a Gospel tract, is just an extension of free speech, and it also has been ruled that state fairs are limited public forums, in which free speech is a right...

Liberal Talk Radio Network Air America Radio Files Chapter 11
NEW YORK (AP) -- Air America Radio, a liberal talk and news radio network, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, a network official told the AP. The network had denied rumors (or did they lie?) just a month ago that it would file for bankruptcy, but on Friday Air America said negotiations with a creditor from the company's early days had broken down.

The network will stay on the air while it resolves issues with its creditors, spokeswoman Jaime Horn told the Associated Press. A formal announcement was expected to be made later Friday.

Sean Hannity had a good point when he said this is not necessarily a good thing for Conservatives as now the Liberals will push harder for their “Fairness Doctrine” bill in congress since they can’t compete and succeed in an open market place. I guess that’s sort of like the idea that since they can’t win elections and issues on the ballot that they use activist judges to get what Congress or the voters won’t give them…
